Current Solid Waste Scenario in Lahore The generation rate of waste in In Lahore, there are 3 dumping areas and one composting facility. Out of those three only one dumping ground is official which is Mehmood Booti Dumping site. This dumping site is being operated by municipal authority since 1997. This site has an total area of 302,207 m2 and received approximately 2000-3000tones of waste on daily basis. Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) is the prime responsible for cleaning the whole city. For this purpose LWMC has hired two Turkish contractors Albyrak & OZPAK for the waste collection and transportation to the dump site. Lahore has been divided into two parts and these two Turkish companies are working and responsible of waste collection in their respective area as assigned by LWMC. Most interestingly an effective complaint system has also been introduced, where a citizen can call at 1139 free of cost to log a complaint and complain will resolve within an hour.
Effective waste collection has made the city much cleaner than it was before and now the waste collection efficiency has reached up to 90-95% which was previously at 30-40%. Before Albyrak & OZPAK: After Albyrak & OZPAK Number of awareness campaigns has also lunched by LWMC each year to keep people aware about the importance of cleanliness. These awareness programs which was initiated with the help of local NGO's and youth groups, helps a lot to keep people aware and make city clean.
