1. A HUNDRED SACRIFICES The skin of large animals is thick and heavy, so producers tend to use smaller animals. It takes 100~200 of these small animals to make 1 fur coat. 2. HALF DEAD, HALF ALIVE Customers demand for softer and smoother skin. The hide of mammals turn stiff after death, so their skin must be peeled off when they are alive. 3. PEEL APPLES OR PEEL OUT SKIN The value of skin declines when it is damaged in the process of being cut off. To prevent this, the skin has to be taken scraped off bit by bit like peeling an apple. 4. THE SCREAM OF THE SILENT, NOT A SILENT SCREAM Rabbits are known for being silent. Yet, they let out screams of pain when they are treated in this way. After the process, the animals move around, alive, naked without their fur. They are piled up like one would see in a landfill. Pink blobs without fur squeal and yelp until they die out. 5. GIVING BIRTH TO DEATH Female minks are forced to give birth to more offspring that their bodies can handle. An average mink would meet its fate from exhaustion after giving birth 7 times. Of course, they are not left alone to die freely. In their last few moments of life, the producers grab them and peel their skin off before it is too late. 6. BYE BYE DEAR PET Still, fur is scarce due to its high demands. To raise their profit, the fur producers do the same for street dogs and cats. Once a few lost dogs are spotted, what is left of their dead bodies is piled up in a mound. 7. I KNOW HOW I WILL DIE All animals are killed in front of their alive friends. That is how the people keep the watching animals quiet and afraid. Fear is respect. 8. MY HEART BURSTS, AND LOVE IS NOT WHY Duck and geese products are also as popular. To make pillows or winter coats out of these, alive birds are thrown and bashed until their chest feathers are plucked out. Their hearts and blood burst out when they die. 9. THE FIRST SECOND OF LIFE IS A KNIFE Calf leather is known for its high quality. The moment they are born, the calves are taken out from their mothers? sides. It is neither sunlight nor fresh air that these creatures see when they first come out to the world, but the tip of sharp knives. 10. ALL FOR NAUGHT The fur is sewed up, mended, and sent to stores and homes all around the world. They are beautiful, yet dead cold. People admire their cold beauty and touch the silken fur. The skin of the dead are bought, and they are worn. However, amid the nonchalant sounds of laughter of the human race, a different sound can be heard. It is the cry of the raccoons, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, foxes, cows, rabbits, minks, and many more. To some of us, they may seem better off dead. Yet to some, they are mothers and fathers who have their own lives. |
