Some of the schools in India are affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). As a part of the Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) Program, CISCE organizes an annual even with the aim of educating people about climate change and environmental protection.

In 2012, the CISCE organised an Eco Exhibition, which was a unique fest aimed at selling eco-friendly products to people all over the city. The two day fest had over 35 schools setting up their stalls at the Nampally Community Grounds and selling eco friendly utility products such as pencils, notebooks, masks etc. All these products were made by students of the participating schools. The event had Mr. WG Prasanna Kumar, Director of the National Green Corps, as Chief Guest.

In 2013, the Food Mela was organized with the objective of educating people about the benefits of buying and eating organically grown food over chemically grown food. Over 2000 along with 100 teachers participated in the event and pledged to promote the use of organic food. All schools set up their stalls which either sold organic food or promoted its use. The event was a huge success with even scientists from WHO coming in to speak about the need of food management.

I hope that these events and the ones to come in future ensure the active participation of youth in eco friendly events.
