Innovative dustbins- use of DOKO

by | 25-06-2014 16:21

I had recently been to an educational tour to Western Nepal. There in a tourist place, Pokhara, I saw amazing and innovative dustbins for waste disposal. Traditionally used and known as "doko", a doko is a carrrier made of bamboo. It is mostly used for carrying goods like fodders and forages in villages of Nepal. A doko is very native as it is rarely found in any parts of the world. The advantages of using doko as a dustbin are
  1. It looks unique and thus, attracts the eyes of the trespassers.
  2. Since, a doko contains many holes in it, no water gets accumulated and thus, only the wastes are held.
  3. It is cheap and uses local materials.
  4. It is easy to replace a overstuffed doko with new one.
  5. A doko is biodegradable.

I hope you found it interesting. Happy to share it with you all. Traveling is a great way to learn. Keep traveling and keep learning. :)
