Earth 2100 Satellite Conference Nepal

This is Bikal Ghimire, a youth highly motivated in social service and working as active volunteer of different non-profit social organizations which indeed makes me feel so special. Academically, I am a student of BSc. Agriculture Science (currently 6th semester) at Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS), Tribhuwan University, Nepal.

I celebrated World Environment Day with the theme "Raise your voice not the sea level" by conducting a conference at my home district, Chitwan. It was entitled "Earth 2100 Satellite Conference". It was organized by Our Task Inc, Arlington, VA, USA in collaboration with Nepalese Youth Synergy and I was the one who coordinated it from Nepal. This conference was organized to motivate youth to play active roles on how to protect and preserve our environment so that earth becomes a safe place to live in even in coming century 2100 A.D. Students from different parts of the country including Kathmandu, Hetauda, Pokhara, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Chitwan have participated in this conference and all together we had selected 80 participants from different places as mentioned above.

This conference was divided in 4 sessions. In the first session our first resource person gave his presentation who was an environment expert. Then a group discussion with question answer series was held which was the second session of the conference. In the third session our next resource person gave his presentation that focused on the roles of youth on environment preservation and how can they enroll themselves on different productive activities that can help to sustain healthy environment. The fourth session was the most important session where the participants were given time to prepare their action plans about how can they bring up programs on local level to sustain healthier environment. Participants were divided into 10 groups with 8 members in each. I felt an immense pleasure when I was observing the last session where participants were having a grand discussion in each group making their action plans and finally each of the group presented their action plans in the stage. It was really appreciable and was appreciated by our resource person. With this the program became a great success indeed as I along with my team was able to create 80 passionate students concerned to sustain a healthier environment.

The chief guest of the conference was District Education Officer Mr. Ramakanta Sharma and Special guest was Registrar of Agriculture and Forestry University Dr. Surya Kant Ghimire.

I do volunteering because I believe I can be a change maker, I can make a difference, what is needed is just initiations and actions. Serving the society and community is not just only my responsibility but a source of my satisfaction too :).

Yours,
Bikal Ghimire
