 Given the Philippines' diverse ecosystems and the pressing challenges it faces, like deforestation, marine pollution, and the effects of climate change, it is important that the country promotes environmental awareness. My journey towards environmental awareness has been influenced by several unique experiences. One moment was during a trip to a mangrove forest. Our guide explained the role mangroves play in protecting coastal communities from storms and erosion, as well as their role in marine life conservation. Including environmental awareness in school curricula and organizing neighborhood-based initiatives like tree planting and beach clean-ups are essential for raising public awareness of the environment. Using technology and social media can help spread environmental messaging, but fundamental change requires support from government in the form of tighter regulations and increased promotion of renewable energy sources. We can raise environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices across the Philippines through policy support, media communication, community engagement, and education.
