There is a general human tendency for more and more economic exploitation of resources unmindful of the ecological consequences. This tendency has created many serious problems. for example - * Energy crisis developed due to excessive use of fossil fuel. * Air pollution resulting from burning of petroleum products. * Water pollution produced by increasing use of fertilizers, pesticides and detergents. * Soil erosion, loss of soil fertility and recurring floods caused by deforestation. * Disposal of wastes resulting from industrialization and urbanisation. * Depletion of resources due to ever-increasing human population. * Threat to wildlife posted by altering natural environment. Man has realized the need to conserve resources, check environmental pollution and control population. However, the desired amount of effort required to tackle these problems is not being made. successful control of these problems needs a global approach and a change in man's attitude toward the environment. |
