![]() Dreams are not those which you see in your sleep, dreams are something which do not let you sleep? This famous quote by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was proven true as the drums beat and the red carpet was laid out, a moment of time and celebration when DPS Sharjah finally achieved the Green Flag- a dream seen by each and every member of the DPS Family ranging from the principal to the supervisors to the environment coordinator to the Eco Committee and even the ancillary staff of our school.
The Green Flag is a coveted Eco-schools accreditation that validates sustainable practices and the Eco-friendly environment of our school. The Eco-schools program is an initiative of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Green Flag was bestowed to DPS Sharjah in the academic year 2014-2015.
The Green Flag Awarding Ceremony was held on 5th May where the prestigious green flag was presented to our school. This event was graced by various different environmental visionaries. Our chief Guest was Ms. Meera Taryam along with her team form BSOE, Bee?ah. Other guests of honour included Ms Ajita Nayar, Ms. Ghada Nabil, Ms. Noor Al Falasi and Ms. Reem Al Thawadi from EWS-WWF.
The event started by invoking the blessings of the almighty through a Verse from the Holy Quran which was about the environment. The song presented by the tiny tots of the primary wing that reminded us that God is the greatest artist and his most beautiful work of art is our mother earth, was ably presented and sung.
The event was smoothly conducted by the compeers Arushi Madan, secretary, Eco-Committee and Rohan Kapur, Water Coordinator, Eco-Committee. An enthralling dance was presented by the girls of grade 11 which was about the deterioration of Mother Earth and that there is still hope. The Eco-schools Coordinators, Vysakh Satheesh and Maryum Siddiqi gave a fantastic Eco-Report in which Aaditya Singh and Nishta Singh described a few of the activities of our school.
The long awaited moment finally arrived when the flag was presented to our school and DPS Sharjah officially became a certified Eco-School. Our environmental coordinator, Anjum Ma?am, who is a true trailblazer of sustainability was elated and her joy knew no bounds when the flag was in her hands and in the hands of the Eco-Committee. The tears of happiness shed by anjum Ma?am, the joy on each Dipsites face, the pride displayed by the Eco-Committee members and the love of principal added to the sweet smell of success.
The flag will be an unperishable part of the DPS Family hereafter, but the feeling of elation that each and every member of the DPS Family from the principal to the ancillary staff and their delight on seeing the flag soared high will be etched in their hearts forever. I am delighted to report that my report on Green Flag was shared at the DPS website. The link is given below:
