Panelist at Middle Easts first Eco- Club Summit- Simran Vedvyas

by Simran Vedvyas | 01-05-2014 11:57

Over 300 students from 120 schools in Abu Dhabi gathered at First Eco Summit of the Middle East region held for 2 days. This was a platform for youth to engage and network, assess and address their schools environmental impact, and allowed leading sustainable schools to share their experience. It brought together global environmental youth leaders and members from Abu Dhabi s leading school eco clubs, fostering an open discussion, interactive brainstorming and the opportunity to share experiences.

I was privileged and honoured as invited panelist to share some of my experiences as I progressed my journey to passionately work for the environment.

I had an opportunity to learn from some other presenters and students who presented their work enthusiastically, we voted for the presentations and cheered each other.  Many presentations and workshops sequenced in several break out rooms keeping everyone engaged and motivated throughout this interesting summit.  I made many new friends too.

I also had the chance to meet Kelvin Doe, who came from Sierra Leone to present at the summit and he amazed the world when he built his own radio station at the age of 13.  The interesting part to know was that he did not have any resources and he actually built batteries, generated power in his community and gathered all the material from trash cans to do this. A true innovator, he is one of the 50 smart kids in the world today and he is now supported by the renowned MIT University for some of his innovative work ahead.

There are thousands of Kevin s and hundreds of Simran s in this world, but we still have the fear and threat to our environment as the time is really clicking fast.  So follow your dreams to make this world a better place.
