New Resolutions on Climate Change in the Philippines

by Bam Azores | 29-04-2014 15:57

Last March 25, 2014 the President of the Philippines signed two resolutions to mitigate the effects of Climate Change. Resolution No. 6 authorizes the Climate Change Commission under Commissioner Sonny Alvarez to have a dialogue with the Worldwatch Institute. Resolution No. 7 approves the Black Carbon or Black Soot Mitigation Project of the Commission.

The Climate Change Commission together with the Worldwatch Institute will design the ?Sustainable Power System: A Roadmap for the Philippines."  The team of Mr. Alexander Ochs will dialogue about the design of a sustainable power system for more efficient energy production.

The Climate Change Commission will also focus on the Black Carbon Mitigation Project by coming up with plans to lessen pollution caused by transportation and generators running on diesel.  They hope to work with the private sector on ways to mitigate the effects of Climate Change.

Related to these Resolutions are the advances made by the country on use of Renewable Energy.  According to the Climate Change Commission, 35% of the Philippines' energy production is from renewable energy in a mix of geothermal, hydropower, solar and other sources of energy.
