Celebrating Earth Day at the City of the 7 Lakes

by Bam Azores | 26-04-2014 17:31

Earth Day was celebrated in our City in a very special way. In the morning of April 22, 26014, a group of concerned citizens gathered around the Atrium of SM City Mall of San Pablo. We had a program and exhibit that started with welcome remarks by the General Manager GT Exconde and City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Mon de Roma. Both of them talked about what their organizations are doing to protect the environment.

I learned something from Mr. De Roma when he said that our lives are very dependent on the LAW. I know we should all follow the law so there is peace and order. But what he means is that our lives depend on Land, Air and Water. This is a good way to remember the resources that are important to live.

Alfter the welcome remarks was the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the exhibit. In the exhibit were groups like our Friends of the Seven Lakes Foundation. The Human Nature group that produces organic beauty and household products also had an exhibit. A summer school for kids and. Crafts from Nagcarlan town also had stuff on display.

Then they called us the special presenters for Earth Day. I spoke about the seven lakes and what the young kids and youth are doing in our City. This was also our time to launch our project called Sachet Recovery where we collect used sachets which are recycled into ecobricks or ecopavers that our community can use. Our teacher from the public school, Ms. Claudine Villaneva and her student Harold Ticzon explained the project.

After some other presentations, we sat around n the exhibit to welcome people who might have questions about our projects. It was a good way to spend Earth Day and make people aware of the environment
