Tough Yet Thorough Recycling at School

by Jeonghyun Lee | 13-04-2014 20:55

As a UNESCO designated high school, our school has launched various programs and has installed numerous facilities for the environment, and one of them is a very strict recycling program and trash cans.        We have recycling bins on every floor not only to promote recycling itself but to reduce the enormous amount of trash that is thrown out every day.

The recycling program works in mainly two steps. The first step is gathering trash in every single classroom as well as the teachers? offices. There are recycling bins in every single room, which makes it very easy to recycle whatever we throw away. Then, a designated recycling volunteer from every single class gathers the trash and carries it to the main recycling bin in the hallway.

Once all the trash is gathered in the main recycling bin, it is sorted out once again in order to prevent any recyclables from getting mixed with others. The sorting rules are quite strict with a total of 7 categories: paper, cans, plastics, glass, plastic wraps and bags, metals, and non-recyclables. Therefore, it takes quite a while to sort all of these out.
Nonetheless, we feel proud at the fact that we did something for the environment by taking part in this strict recycling process. Why don?t you start your own recycling program in your school?
