Ms. Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications of DEWA, presented the award to us. A moment to seize, with nearly 30 teenagers getting on the stage from both the sides to share the moment, with an applauding audience and paparazzi clicking photos. His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA attended this event along with many other distinguished guests. In Dubai, UAE Dubai Electricity and Water Authority DEWA marked Earth Hour under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, in partnership with Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Emirates Wildlife Society EWS. SynergY with its brigade of over 100 Youth participated in this event and nearly half of them volunteered since the afternoon to support and manage key interactive areas organized for children, youth and people attending the event. These managed activities ranged from cycling zones for healthy living and eco- lifestyle, to bouncing castle and saloon for children, laying out the candles, lighting them, assisting in stage and photography activities. Besides this SynergY also organized a huge and very inspiring booth during Earth Hour at Business Avenue Park partnering with DEWA to promote and encourage people to Make The Switch to energy efficient bulbs and appliances. Visitors had the opportunity to write messages as Expressions to save the Environment and Planet Earth and make pledges. SynergY has also pledged to continue and promote this through the social media to MakeTheSwitch. There were hundreds of inspiring messages and pledges taken and many photos taken by the teenagers during the event, which will be up on the facebook page www.facebook.com/CosmoFoundationYouth. SynergY Youth Group once again passionately showcased- How much events like Earth Hour mean to the generation today? Over a Billion people in over 7000 cities across the globe observed Earth Hour 2014. Earth Hour is one of the biggest environmental campaigns. Introduced in 2007 in Sydney with 2.2 million people switching off their lights and other non-essential electronics, Earth Hour 2014 marked the eighth year of the campaign. |
