A summary of the report of the fifth assesment by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change , says that "Increasing magnitudes of warming increase the likelihood of severe, pervasive , and irreversible impacts," As more carbon is released into the atmosphere, and the clock ticks by , its effects become clearer and clearer. And while authorities debate and draft policies, the major action, the implementation must be taken up by the common people , for the simple reason that they form the majority. And while realization, may cause a general stir, it is actualization that is the key to unlocking the door to the solutions , in this case , mitigation and prevention of worse impacts. Mitigation of impacts caused by the damage done so far implies an immediate call to action . But the call to action is acted upon only by a few, this is due to ,in some cases a lack of awareness , and in other cases , sheer ignorance. Some people are unwilling to accept the fact that our actions are the root cause of this , and so go on , depleting natural resources. And if we are , to face up to this , to get ourselves out of this cesspool , we must take the responsibility of taking action. By spreading awareness among those who are not aware, by conserving our natural resources to prevent further depletion, we can change the status quo. Only then , can this ignorance be gotten rid of and real solutions acted upon. And as, the temperature rises , degree by degree, bringing with it ,massive damage to life and wreaking havoc, we are faced with a choice ,to shrug it off or to take action in doing what we can to preserve our environment. I urge you to take the latter.....................because every degree counts. |
