We , Indian observed the Earth Hour to support Global Mission – Rajashree

by | 30-03-2014 19:10

On March 29  , 2014  at 20:30 pm local time was celebrated as Earth Hour across the world along with other  152 counties of the globe , as a step to highlight global climate change initiatives. At 8:30 pm, the lights were  momentarily switched off before solar powered lights come on  in most of the  parts of India.  It  helped to  create awareness among people to take responsibility for a sustainable future by turning their lights off.  Most of the municipalities and state Governments  celebrated  the Earth Hour in the proper way because it is about giving people a voice on the planet?s future and working together to create a sustainable low carbon future for planet earth.

Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor has been roped in as the National ambassador for this year?s Earth Hour to add some celebrity weightage.  Under the Earth Hour initiative, citizens were asked to switch off all electricity for an hour.

"Greenery is vanishing by leaps and bounds, and that's something I have been intrigued by since childhood. I would like to have a garden, but in Mumbai it's impossible to have one. So we have a garden on the terrace," Arjun said  during his request to citizens..

Non-renewable energy, green house effect, global warming these are the terms from the last decade that have carried over to this millennium with burning intensity. While we feel the change in climate every season and simply explain it away as global warming, what most of us fail to recognise is the urgency with which these issues must be addressed with.

To help raise that awareness, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) began the Earth Hour in 2007 when the whole of Sydney in Australia infamously switched off their lights for an hour. Six years on, the practice has become a ritual that WWF is trying to spread across the globe.

Found Earth Hour event opposite People?s Plaza, Necklace Road today. However, Earth Hour isn?t just about the energy saved in that one hour?s black out, but to make people aware that alternative lifestyles which are more energy conscious are possible.

Quite a few youth groups and also state organisations like State Energy Conservation Mission and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are supporting the cause and some places in the city will go dark during the designated hour.

With mass celebration of the Earth Hour 2014, it is indicating that  more and more peoples are getting involve on such initiatives trying to use  sustainable living and alternative energy choices.

I have seen in TV news ,how the big cities have observed the ?Earth Hour? and  tried to make people aware that there are alternative sources of energy that are better and safer for the planet. Few photomaps are attached here along with my graphic Symbol  made for the special event,
