Having Zero Carbon Emission in Liberia

by Burton Dorley | 30-03-2014 20:21

The Liberia Electricity Cooperation (LEC) is the only source of Electricity in Liberia. The Energy sector needs to be empowered in order to have low carbon emission in Liberia.
The Environmental Protection Agency is trying to launch a project called ''ZERO CARBON EMISSION'' but the valid is, launching the zero carbon project is good for the country's environment but the taxi driver will be left with no means of earning his daily needs because approximately 90% of the car in Liberia produces high level of carbon emission.
As my weekly routine to take Environmental Statistics in my communities and around, I noticed that the Royal Grand Hotel located on 14th Street, Monrovia Liberia is still using Generator that produces high level of carbon emission.
I had a question with one of the workers saying that why is it that the Liberia Electricity Cooperation is distributing electricity to others and they don't have but using generators that have problems to human health? And his answer was that the LEC cannot supply us with electricity because of the many appliances we have, and i sad wow what a sad news.

The Community dwellers residing within this environment are infecting badly because of the high level of carbon emission from the Generators daily.
Carbon Monoxide is colourless, odourless and tasteless so people who are exposed to it have no idea that they are breathing in a toxic gas until it is too late.
It binds very easily to haemoglobin in the red blood cells, which is the substance that oxygen also binds to and this is the method by which most of the oxygen is delivered around the body.
Because Carbon Monoxide binds to haemoglobin much more easily than oxygen does, it displaces the oxygen molecules which means that the body tissues do not receive any oxygen - leading to suffocation of the cells.
A person who has been exposed to Carbon Monoxide will have a headache, nausea and vomiting. In higher levels, they may become confused and unable to think clearly they may say they have a sensation of pressure in the head or roaring in the ears.
WE SHOULD REALLY HAVE ZERO CARBON PROJECT LAUNCHED
