SOCIAL MEDIA FOR GREEN LIVING!

by | 31-03-2014 09:33

What can you change about our world if you had an uninterrupted internet connection? What can you strive to fix in the broken piece of our earth with your smart phones and high-performing devices? What can your interactions on social media do for nature? How can technology save earth?

These were the exact questions on my mind when I set out on the 28th of March, 2014 to organize my first monthly activity as Eco-generation Ambassador. I felt beyond the 'chitty-chatty' nature and fun of social media, there's more to them that we can use to conserve nature. I felt if I could reach out to a thousand people with my Twitter account on the roles of man in conserving nature, then I would have succeeded in saving the natural environment in my own little way.

So, I organized a very impressive tweet chat with a young and very passionate environmental expert in Nigeria. It was quite unique and a well received idea in Nigeria which is the country I?m representing here at Eco-generation. I named the chat #GreenChat and I invited a lot of friends, colleagues, family folks, Non-governmental and global organizations working in the field of environment to participate in the chat on Twitter. It was so much fun coupled with stunning information, knowledge sharing and acquisition and more importantly, taking of pledges to be more committed to our environment.

During the chat, we talked about several issues such as the status and trends of world's natural resources, the challenges facing nature especially in the 21st Century, how human beings contribute to these challenges and what we must do in order to protect the environment.
And yes, we talked about Nigeria's natural resources and how government, private sector and individuals especially young people like us can collaborate to achieve an environmentally safer and biodiversity richer Nigeria. It was really interesting. I never knew I could use social media to promote environmental protection awareness that much and I have promised to keep doing it.

Social media for green living is great! Friends, let us use social media to raise our voices to demand for  a better treatment of our earth. If I could do it, you too can do it!! Cheers!!!
