Biodiversity Liberia

by Burton Dorley | 28-03-2014 22:15

Liberia is one of the country that is rich in biodiversity with several endemic species, but is under threat for two major sources which is west Africa's biggest problem. They are: Deforestation causes loss and fragmentation of habitat  and Wildlife protection remains a critical source of the protein and cash income to rural Liberians. The commercial trade trade of bushmeat is posing a serious threat to a number of hunted species ], wherein we as environmentalist and Eco friends we should have our wildlife protected. With this many Liberians take this as the main increase of commercial trade in order to have an income.

We should regulate hunting and eliminate poaching of wildlife
Government should be responsible to introduce rules and regulations on the hunting of wildlife. These should include permitted species that should be hunted, in order to develop alternative means of earning livelihood to hunters.

We should Adopt and implement the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan

The Government should have projects and action plan and should be implemented by the Environmental Agency with financial support from internal and external sources

Implement Biodiversity-related conventions
The Government should implement measures in Convention on Transitional Trade for Endangered Species and conform to all related international agreements to which Liberia is part of.

Protection of Endemic species

Also the Government should undertake special efforts to protect endemic species, as well as highly endangered species.

LET US ALL PROTECT OUR WILDLIFE
LET US ALL GO GREEN WITH ECO-GENERATION
