![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() An adage says that Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Since I have been an ambassador, I have been working on how to eradicate the practice of littering and dumping in the area. I was at Lumley, a centre of attraction in Freetown and home to many inhabitants. In the recent past, this area has bolstered in population which has been quite unhygienic for human living. the presence of plastics and other non-recyclables made it quite difficult for us to pass. At one point in time, the debris use to prevent the free flow of traffic in this area and it was not conducive. Last year, the Government awarded the cleaning of the capital to Masada, a private cleaning company. This move was greatly criticised by the Freetown City Council, the principal custodian of the municipality. After heated debates, they reluctantly allowed Masada to work. So last week, I was opportuned to see a Masada worker cleaning the footpath in Lumley. This was a novelty to myself and I thought it was the best practice. As innovative as it may seem, the question remains of its sustainability since Masada is a private Company. The Government through the Ministry of Youth and Employment gave a Billion Leones ($222,222,222) as an employment scheme for youths to clean the country. If this initiative is well sustained, it will lead to a great upheaval in the employment scheme which will keep our city clean. Therefore, I recommend that all Sierra Leonean keep the cleanliness on track |
