This poem I wrote tells of the changes that are experienced by those displaced by irresponsible deforestation. Title: An ode to the changing environment The soft waters flowed Cascading through the glens Wind in the willows blew All seemed to be at ease For all was serene in the quiet calm forest Till one tumultuous day When those savages came They tore our flora down and caused an uproar All in the forest was disrupted Things were never to be the same again As the lofty cedars and towering pines were uprooted Never to be seen by us again Some said it was modernization ,the stuff of great change Others thought it was stuff and nonsense To take our homes away Some fought for us Others departed Some created propaganda around it And when things quieted down, went away Yet the fact remained that our home throughout the years Was cut down, destroyed and taken away I urge you, dear child to heed my words Do not fell your trees Or destroy the forests they inhabit For they provide the oxygen you breathe And are a refuge for many -written by Aasha Eapen |
