Come 29th March 2014, I 'm sure that you will all be observing Earth Hour 2014 by switching off all your lights. The Earth Hour movement is a brilliant phenomenon observed the world over with famous buildings switching off. The Burj Khalifa did too in 2013 and landmarks like the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, U.A.E switched off as well. But I'd like us, as the youth, to think of the further actions that will be taken after this year's Earth Hour. A passing hour shall be observed by many but what is done next is of importance. Whether it be travelling by public transport, using the unused pages of your old notebooks as rough books or continuing to switch off electrical appliances when not in use, I encourage you to do so. Effective initiatives are not necessarily taken through big events but through the continual and consistent efforts of individuals. I f we all think global and act local, we will be helping to preserve our environment .So take part in local and global activities, raise your voice for this worthy cause and apply it in your everyday lives. And in doing so, these initiatives and the continual of your efforts to help preserve our environment will help in creating change. Mahatma Gandhi said "Be the change that you wish to see in the world." The efforts that you take, may be small, but are of significant importance and I urge you not to tire in continuing to do them. |
