Bangladesh is the most Vulnurable due to Climate Change

by | 08-03-2014 17:25

The subject i chose today is a major issue. I may not describe all , but i will keep shouting on the issue. The term Global Warming is known to all of us. Its the rise of temperature of the whole environment of the Earth. The temperature is increasing. Most of the causes are man-maid. We are responsible for all these. I don't want to ignore or disrespect the technological advancement, industrialization etc. But its high time we took initiative to save mother earth.

The effect of climate change and global warming on Bangladesh is enormous. Its a matter of sorrow for all Bangladeshi. According to National Geography , Bangladesh is the most vulnerable  country due to the impacts of global warming in upcoming decades. General public of Bangladesh even don't know whats happening due to global warming in Bangladesh.

Global Warming causes climate change. And the scenario here is

River bank erosion
Near about 106,300 hectare river bank has eroded over the period from 1982 to 1992 due to climate change induced hazards especially floods. And this will continue until we could control the situation.

Disappearing seasons of Bangladesh
There are six seasons in Bangladesh which are disappearing due to climate change. Summer & rainy seasons are prolonging, whereas winter season is shrinking. Autumn and Dewy seasons are vanishing. Spring season is almost vanished.

Saline water intrusion
About 830,000 hectare cultivable land has damaged by saline water intrusion from Bay of Bengal. The agricultural sector in at risk.

There are lot other scenarios. Now come to the future estimation due to climate change. A research say, there are 13% areas are salinity at Bagerhat, Khulna & Sathkhira, the southwestern coastal districts of Bangladesh at present which will increase 16% in 2050 and 18% in 2100. About 75% area of mangrove forest, Sundarban (60007 Sq. km) will submerse if the sea level will increase 45 cm. If the sea level rise 1 m then the islands of Bay of Bengal and whole Sundarban will destroy including its fauna & flora.

Bad impacts will occur on fisheries of Bangladesh. Production of sweet water fish will decrease and extinct if the sea level rise. Already some species of fishes are about to extinct. Rise of sea level will increase the risk of coastal salinity. Scarcity of saline free water will also increase. 30% of all land species will be threatened by an increased risk of extinction if global environment increase by 2 degree centigrade.

Climatehotmap scientists estimated, By 2050, scientists estimate that sea-level rise in the delta could directly affect more than 3 million people. Bangladesh could lose nearly one-quarter of the land area it had in 1989 by the end of this century, in a worst-case scenario.

I want you all to come up  with Climate Change issue and please raise your voice to support Bangladesh at this vulnerable situation. :(
