Garbage Trouble

by | 07-03-2014 04:01

In the first week of February, I and my team members went to a lane next to my school. The road was very narrow and uneven. There was garbage all over. The stray dogs were searching for something to eat out of the garbage. The foul smell was reaching our noses, making us feel uncomfortable.  There were very few plants and trees in that lane.
We surveyed 10 houses in that lane and found out that the municipal corporation garbage –pick van didn?t come on a regular basis.. Sometimes it didn?t appear for weeks. But, it was good to see that people corporate and tried to keep the road clean, at least, the main way.
As we were walking down the street, we saw a street vendor selling something.  It was covered with transparent plastic to save it from dirt. But, he had set his stall near an open drainage. The vendor was surrounded by small children. The main thing we observed was that there was lack of sanitation and greenery.

Our team chalked out a plan with the local residents to overcome the sanitation troubles. The plan largely comprises of spreading awareness in the common people, particularly the likes of the above mentioned vendor and their customers. The children, as the forerunners of the awareness programs, were given a special orientation session. This drive proved to be successful and opened scopes for further projects and actions.
