Micro Dust Problem in China & S.Korea

by | 27-02-2014 22:02

In Seoul, we have 'Micro Dust Warning' issued by government three days in a row. People are wearing masks to go outside, and elderly people and young ones are advised to stay home.

The Ministry of Environment announced on Feb.26 that Chinese government promised to share the air pollution data gathered from 330 cities & 990 measuring institutions in China. It is the first agreement regarding the micro dust problem that two countries governments come up with. The agreement includes the public sharing of then and current air pollution status of China. The further development will be discussed in upcoming month.

Up until the year 2012, the yellow dust had been more serious problem than micro dust in China.  Then, January 2013, the dust particle concentration in the air hit PM 2.5 which makes it the biggest pollution problem in China since. No authority has been clearly stating the exact reason for the problem. Assumption that rapid growth in industry, the use of fossil energy could be the culprit was the opinions among the environment related institutions.

Since Korea is located really close to China, the micro dust pollution becomes the huge health and living issue in Korea. And definitely the issue cannot be resolved by the efforts of Korean government only.  I hope public will aware the imminent danger of environment issue and try to live green life.

Seeing the grey sky, I am afraid this will be the sky I have to watch every day...
