Rain water harvesting! - Essence of future

by | 23-02-2014 19:29

Water scarcity is not at all a new issue for India and the world. In Gurgaon (India), it is estimated that the city would run out of water in the next 10 years. Rain water harvesting is one of the technique to save water. Developed nations are using it already to maintain water supply during regional water restrictions.

Some nations are already using rain water harvesting to supplement the main water supply. It provides water during droughts, prevents flooding of low lying areas, replenishes the ground water table, and also helps in the availability of clean water by reducing the salt content.

Interesting thing is that the setup of rainwater harvesting system is very simple and does not require much investment. Especially roof top rain water harvesting. The system can be installed with minimum skills. It should be sized to meet the water demand throughout the dry season.

I've designed the rainwater harvesting system for four hostels of my college. Since the rainfall is dropping in Jamshedpur since last 4-5 years, it would be helpful for the students to live in hostels having the rainwater harvesting systems installed. I encourage all the youth around the world to save rain water by practicing rainwater harvesting techniques, since it promotes both water and energy conservation.
