Urbanization in Kathmandu

by | 18-02-2014 09:31

Urbanization has been a major problem in the capital city of Nepal. As the capital is far more compared to the other city and villages people migrate here in a huge number in search of good education, job opportunities, health facilities and many more. So there has been a great increasement in the population in the capital since last ten years. Although the population has increased significantly, there are no any effective programs carried out in order to manage the city.

There are no such effective and strict housing rules. So people are building houses where ever they like. The houses are compact and almost all the houses are attached to each other. There arises the problem of proper ventilation as well as rise in various diseases. The city lacks open spaces as building are now increasing like a wild spread mushrooms.

In addition to that there is a lot of air pollution going on currently. There are no such strict laws to check the quality of cars on roads. Old cars which produce a lot of pollution are found in the roads and car do not have any purifying system so as to emit harmless gas. Eco-friendly vehicle like bicycle do not have separate lane, so as to encourage the cycle riders. Even due to the unmanaged urbanization the rivers are being polluted as all the drain pipes are connected to it.

So climate change has affected this region which has serious impact in the daily life of people living here. One part the government is not doing well, while on the other part I think we should realize this problem our self and act accordingly to address this problem.
