UAE Committed to protect Sharks

by Rohan Kapur | 18-02-2014 13:15

1.    As reported by United Nations approx. 70 million sharks are brutally massacred every year for Shark fin.

2.    Shark fins are very popular in China & Far East for use in Soup & Traditional medicine.

3.    A bowl of Shark fin soup costs US$ 100

4.    Some traffickers cut off the fins and throw the shark back into the sea, causing the shark to die a slow, painful death.

Shark finning is illegal in UAE & some species of sharks are under threat due to unsustainable fishing practices.

As introduced by the UN-linked Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), UAE plus eight other Arab countries has signed a new agreement known as Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks in order to protect migrating sharks as efforts continue against shark fin traffickers.

Random killing of sharks or any other mammal or bird disturbs the ecological balance & creates havoc for environment that we are facing as a harsh reality.

This positive step will help preserve & conserve the environment to a great extent.
