Poem contest on the theme Together we can.........

by | 10-02-2014 13:10

I see the plastic

I cry in heart

I see the dirtiest street

I detest pollution

I close my eyes

And dream of a green earth

My friend, come along

Let us make dream a reality

You plant a tree

I will water it

Someone will dispose the plastics

Yes we can do it

We can make a cleaner, a greener earth.

Because I believe in my dream.

When a student, Miss Ankita Ghimire from fifth standard of Zenith Boarding School recited her poems, I was literally surprised. I was surprised at how young minds like her have understood and portrayed the importance of green earth so well. This all happened during a program, "Poem contest on the theme Together we can build a cleaner and greener earth" that I had organized on the date of 8th February, 2014 in Zenith Boarding School, Saradanagar, Chitwan, Nepal on the behalf of Tunza Eco generation.

The main objective of the program was to encourage the students to write green poems, help them understand the importance of green environment through their active participation and to introduce Tunza Eco-generation. The program was a follow up program of the theme of Tunza Ecogeneration on the year 2014 which is "Power of Young Crowds".

SUMMARY OF THE PROGRAM

Zenith Boarding School had requested programs for the students from my side. When I proposed a program from Tunza Eco-generation, they couldn?t be happier. The poem contest was conducted for students of grade 5 where 22 students participated in the contest. On the theme of together we can build a cleaner and greener earth, varieties of poems were recited. The principal and founder of the school, Mr. Anil Adhikari monitored the whole program and even judged the participants. Mr. Adhikari was very pleased with the performance of his students.

The winner of the poem contest was Miss Ankita Ghimire whereas Mr. Anish Lamichhane bagged second and Mr Rajesh B.K. bagged third prize for their outstanding poems. To keep everyone involved I conducted a small green quiz with the help of my helping hand, Mr. Pratik Kunwar. Questions related to environment were asked and prizes were distributed. Inv addition to this, students were introduced to Tunza Ecogeneration and 3 R (reduce, reuse, recycle) principles. They were also told about the importance of a clean and green environment.

THEIR MESSAGE TO TUNZA ECOGENERATION

Everyone loved the program and was interested to learn more about Tunza Ecogeneration Platform. Mr. Anil Adhikari, the principal and founder of the Zenith Boarding School has sent deep regards and gratefulness to tunza ecogeneration. Internet is not accessible to the students but they have promised to use the platform of Tunza Ecogeneration when it will be. Students have promised to be more eco-friendly. This is by far the most responding school I have worked with.

CONCLUSION

Overall, the program was a success. It was amazing to see children so enthusiastic and humble in the place with so little resources and facilities (for your information, this school belongs to rural area and infrastructures are so minimum). Hopefully, they will try and amuse more people with their art and environmentalism. As for me, conducting programs for young minds has always taught me good lessons. And this time, I have learnt to be more dutiful and thankful to my environment and the resources no matter how many limitations there can be.
