The United Arab Emirates first Mountain Protocol Area since 2009 listed under the IUCN as a National Park ,the Wadi Wurayah National Park will be the site of the regions first water research center.
The protected area, nestled in the Hagar mountain range in Fujairah, one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates is home to 75 species of birds, 17 species of reptiles & amphibians and 12 mammal species including the mountain gazelle & the Arabian Tahr.
It is recognized as a wetland of international importance as this national park is home to one of the five permanent freshwater sources in the United Arab Emirates.
The water research & learning program that will include participants monitoring water and compiling data on a regular basis is seen as a conservation effort in the region. I personally am glad that such a step towards conservation of natural resources is taken and hope that through the continuous efforts of the Emirates Wildlife Society in association with the Fujairah Municipality that more steps will be taken towards the preservation of The United Arab Emirates natural resources. |
