![]() The UAE celebrates its National Environment Day today. The government, non-governmental organisations and private companies have launched numeous initiatives for the protection of the environment. Masdar City, the Shams solar power project etc are some of the large number of environmental initiatives that we can boast of. Young people are volunteering with green activities like tree planting and cleaning up localities. Schools are encouraging students to take part in such activities through eco clubs and projects. But even though a lot of environmental activity is taking place, we have to re-evaluate what is happening within our houses. Are we concerned with the environment only during our free time or do we carry it as a part of our lives? If not, make it a point to do so from now on. It isn?t very tough. Switching off taps, lights, computers, TVs, etc when not in use can be a first step. The predicted end of the world hasn?t come about yet. We can try even now to save it. There is a lot of time left. Let?s change ourselves, then teach our children, then our friends, relatives and colleagues and see the difference it makes. - See more at: http://khaleejtimes.ae/kt-letter-display.asp?xfile=data/letters/2014/February/letters_February12.xml§ion=letters#sthash.tx8YCT8n.dpuf |
