The Festival @ Masdar City

by Rohan Kapur | 25-01-2014 18:25

As a part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability week 2014, an Eco-festival is being organized at the Masdar city Abu Dhabi on 24 & 25 Jan-2014 (It is on Today also). I visited it on 24-Jan-2014.

Masdar City, Abu Dhabi is an evolutionary & daring journey to build the world?s most sustainable city, pushing the boundaries of urban design & efficient resource management. It has an area of 6 KM2 & is located near to the Abu Dhabi International Airport.

It was amazing to feel the city myself. Everything in it was eco-friendly. The festival was an attraction for kids as they are the next-gen eco-warriors. It has The Secret garden, Book Swap, Sustainable Living Exhibitions, Small Organis food vendors, Farmers & Spice Market, live stations & plenty of eco-activities for children. I Attended Fun Eco-Crafts, Beat The Bucket, Planting Flowers, Eco-Systems Explorations, Cycle to light a bulb & making Art & Craft.

I was made the leader in Eco-Systems Explorations activity. The children were divided into 2 groups & my group & the other group competed to answer various eco questions, cleaning the oceans & catch the mouse (blindfolded). All games highlighted the role we can play to save the environment. My team won this activity. Besides this I painted my pot, planted a flower & took it home. While cycling to light a bulb I was able to generate enough electricity to light a bulb while cycling.

This festival is a great opportunity for children to learn the eco-system & how we can make our efforts to make this planet a greener place to live.
