by Barisoa Nancy Andriamiarimbola | 31-12-2022 14:58

Debate Training and Championship.

I am delighted to share with you the report of our certifying training on debate and public speaking, where Tunza Eco-Generation was one of the official partners and I was the moderator.

We had around fourty participants from Madagascar. (wishing them the best) during the training organized by African Voice in partnership with Tunza Eco-Generation and many other international organizations starting from November 27, 2022 until December 11, 2022.

Debate Training

Debate is a structured process of communication around a specific topic (called motion) where two sides oppose one another and try to prove that their stance is the most logical in comparison to the other.

Why is debate really important ?
Debates help you think critically and  improve your speaking skills. In addition, debates make you more knowledgeable and are a tool to resolve conflicts. Finally, debates will broaden your view and accelerate your personal growth.

We organized a training with African Voice on debate and public speaking especially climate change so that young people would recognize the importance of their actions and the audience would be convinced by the arguments and take action. I had the chance to train forty young people on debate and public speaking as I am the National Representative of African Voice in Madagascar. We gave Ambassadors' Goods to the active participants.

Climate change is a challenge for sustainable development. If it is not effectively addressed, it will have dramatic adverse consequences for the environment and for economic and social development. A debate will therefore help to convince the parties to take care, leading the audience to realize this environmental challenge.

The participants will receive certificates of participation and the outstanding ones represent Madagascar during the championship in debate.

Climate Change Debate : Is climate change a disaster waiting to happen or a technological challenge that can be overcome?

Scientists warn that the record melting of Arctic ice is part of a disturbing trend and is the clearest sign yet of the need for society to act to combat climate change. But is climate change a coming catastrophe or a technological challenge?

In summary and important to remember in the debate is that climate change is everybody's business. When it comes to global warming, we should take action, but most of the suggested actions will not solve the problem. It must be based on science, engineering and technology. There is a tremendous amount that can be done in terms of energy efficiency and conservation: better cars, better home insulation. We need to recognize that natural gas emits one-third the carbon dioxide of coal.

Debate Championship

Among all African countries, Madagascar has also participated in the championship debate against several African countries including Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia since the first, second and third round, quarter-final, semi-final and now on the qualification of the third place.

Here are the names of the debating team from Madagascar that we have trained and that have stood out and whose National Representatives are the Team Leaders :

  • BESAOTRA Noé Marie Gildas
  • RANJAKASOA Raphaël Marcellin
  • Rasolomampionona Odon Fabrice
  • SEHENONIRINA Tolotry Ny-Avo

We thank all the partners during the Training and our Malagasy supporters during the championship.

Tonight at 9:00 GMT+3, Madagascar Team will have a live debate on the facebook page African Voice against Uganda Team. We wish them much success and that this initiative can develop Africa.

I would like to dedicate this article to my team members and the participants I trained. Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one. I wish you a wonderful new year 2023 and hope it brings you many blessings!
