UAE's capital Abu Dhabi is planning to build a green road network that is expected be the first of its kind in the Middle East. The 5km pilot project will connect the capital Abu Dhabi to Dubai by the first ever green road in the Middle East. The project will act as a model for future roads to be built in the capital and will adopt globally accepted standards of sustainable practices. Construction is expected to begin at the start of 2015 and that the road would be up and running by the end of that year. The project will feature solutions to lower carbon emissions, as well as environmentally friendly construction material such as recycled asphalt/concrete aggregates and scrap rubber tyres. It will also use green solutions such as renewable energy for lighting. The green road project is one of the DoT?s initiatives for the Surface Transport Master Plan, which aims to develop a world-class integrated road network that sets an example for environmentally friendly projects. Several studies have been undertaken to guarantee that the initiative will be as green as possible. Yes , UAE-Go Green. |
