                    EUCALYPTUS TREE

  • Eucalyptus tree is one of the trees of biodiversity importance which is also known as Masala in Nepal. It has economic importance since it provides spices that can be used in cooking, in perfumes, in detergents, in embalmment etc. However, according to research in the eucalyptus, it is believed to exhaust the soil by absorbing too much water and nutrients. Researches show that eucalyptus tree makes the soil compact by making it exhausted and unfavorable for other crops nearby. There are large forests of eucalyptus in Nepal and they fetch good income to the people trading for spices and wood. Yet from scientific point of view, the soil in which the eucalyptus trees remains are losing fertility and its originality. It is advised that eucalyptus trees are not planted near the agricultural fields and premises.
