SPEAKER AT MEVEG CONGRESS

by | 28-12-2013 23:57

The MEVEG congress held recently at the Dubai World Trade Centre - Hall 4 . This  event was a part of the ongoing Middle East Natural & Organic Products Exhibition. The theme of this MEVEG congress revolves around "championing the goal of increased consumption of plant based foods for better health, sustainability and harmonious living in the Middle East."

I was invited to be a speaker at this event since I am championing the cause of sustainable consumption whereby civil society needs to seriously reduce wastage patterns for a sustainable future. My presentation was titled " Sustainable Consumption - The Look of Food" . I was the only child speaker and the youngest to speak at this international event.

During my presentation, I reiterated that  a burgeoning global population is putting enormous strain on our resources . Due to rapid development and urbanisation, our consumption has increased greatly and we face the risk of running out of resources. We must produce and consume only what we need and say no to waste. This I emphasised is at the core of the Sustainable Consumption and Production. The audience was extremely proactive and had a lot of queries which I  responded to in detail.

For it to work, all the stakeholders in the supply chain, must find it worthwhile and viable . It must make sense not just theoretically but commercially as well . This will ensure that all constituents in the supply chain , from the farm to the fork , drive the process making it sustainable.
