Lack of latrines in Nepal

by | 28-12-2013 12:24

It is with great regret to present the miserable conditions of so many villages of Nepal many villages of Nepal like Majedi, Bardiya, Jhumka etc are without latrines. Can you believe that? In today's fast growing world, can you believe that? And the people get rid of their wastes in jungles and fields which is spreading diseases in the villages. Also, this is creating unbearable environmental pollution like bad smell, decrease beauty of the places and also decreases internal and external tourism in the places. I happened to mention this due my course on nursing in NPI, Chtiwan, Nepal to one of my teachers Mrs. Sunita Basnet Parajuli. And I was shocked to hear about what she said. She said many projects have been launched for the construction of latrines in Nepalese villages but it is a misery to know that people are misusing the latrines made by the projects. As a matter of fact, people of villages of Nepal are poor and they lack concrete houses. The projects have made concrete latrines in their villages and so, people use these latrines as store houses rather than for the primary purpose for which it was constructed. It is really sad. There are no latrines and if there are then, they are misused.
