Farewell 2013, Hello 2014!

by Jeonghyun Lee | 28-12-2013 12:30

It?s both a gloomy and happy thing that the year 2013 is almost over. About three days are left until 2014, and it seems like I?ve done virtually nothing in 2013. J Still, I?m glad at the fact that a new year is coming, and hope you?re all prepared for it. Anyways, I?d like to look back on 2013, especially on what we did for mother Earth.

First of all, 2013 was the year of ?Think Eat Save? designated by UNEP, as you well know. This was the key theme of World Environment Day, which was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Under the goal, the program and people altogether strived to bring a sustainable food system into our society. They focused on developing an efficient and eco-friendly way to solve food waste problems, as well as growing and delivering fresh produces to our dinner table.

I, as a citizen living in Goyang, South Korea have done mainly three things to protect and raise awareness about the local environment. To begin with, it has been an honor to serve as an Eco-generation ambassador to Korea for a whole year. I?d like to thank the Eco-generation team as well as fellow ambassadors and members. Working as an ambassador was one of the best experiences I had in 2013, or even in my whole lifetime.

Second, I participated in various activities to protect the Janghang Wetland in my city. I have been making numerous visits to the place and taking pictures. I?ve learned about its importance in my city as well as the local environment. I?ve also participated in volunteer activities and cleaned up the wetland. Lastly, I have also made various trips to traditional Hannoks to learn about their eco-friendliness, and how they can play a role in the modern society.

Overall, 2013 has been a wonderful and unforgettable year for me thanks to Eco-generation and various other activities. How was your 2013?

Well, another great year is waiting for us! I hope to meet you all at the GYELS next year! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
