On 15^th December 2013 I and my young sister, we have visited the Gakoki waterway.  The waterway is located in Kicukiro district, Kigali city-Rwanda, with a length of 8km. It collects waste domestic water from households in Kicukiro district. Last days, Gakoki waterway was not on good standing so that it took houses and other infrastructures nearby waterfowl in rain seasons and this was a big challenge to development for people who live or have activities nearby by Gakoki water floor. Nowadays Gakoki waterway has been improved no more disasters from it, people of the area are enjoying the fact.

Towns and cities host a big number of population and activities and infrastructures are closed, and waterways are present to take out to town the dirty domestic water. Generally, in cities waterways are used to be managed in a way that they can not damage anything in all seasons especially in rain season where the quantity of flowing water increases.

Before 2013, Gakoki waterway was a big problem to Kigali Citizen around the waterway, as it was not comfortable just a digging waterway without in soil a plan. It was very easy for the waterway to flood and destroy houses and infrastructures surrounding it. Local population complained always about it. And in this year government has invested in the management and amelioration of the waterway as you can see it on the picture.

The improvement of Gakoki waterway is a solution to challenge met by Kigali citizen especially in Kicukiro district to the development by delaying economic activities in the area and people are talking and enjoying   the fact. The sector is looking good and you can see movement of people without complaining. And activities are going good. There is a big change from last years comparing to now.
