The Clean Up UAE drive is a showpiece event for environmentalists and EEG at the end of the year. This year it was held on 12/12/13 in various locations around the UAE. The event was attended by over 42000 people at least and a lot of schools and corporate houses had participated. The event was planned out from weeks in our school and I was deeply involved in all efforts to get a huge crowd from our school to ensure excellent participation.

The day started out with a gathering of students in our basketball court and collecting our shirts and caps. We then boarded our buses and left for what we expected to be a small place and a small event. And when we reached there, we were astounded with not only the space but also the amount of garbage there. We immediately swung into action and launched up into work.

I noticed at many places that dump was trashed incessantly. It was a pain to see plastic bags, rubber tyres and sharp sticks at many places. These made me get scared as these could easily harm any animal or human that traverses by these dunes. And so I myself collected 7 big bags worth of such waste.

At the end when the refreshments were being served, not many of us seemed to be very much interested?. Not because they were not delicious, but because the happiness of helping to save mother earth bit by bit gave us much more pleasure that what refreshments would give!!!!
