World Arabic Language Day

by George Zacharia | 18-12-2013 14:02

مرحبا وأهلا وسهلا!

Well, how many of you understood what I wrote just above? "مرحبا وأهلا وسهلا!"
Well, that means "Hello and Welcome" in Arabic!
Any idea why Arabic here today?

Well, Today, "December 18th", UN celebrates World Arabic Language Day! As you know Arabic is also one of the official languages of UN too.
Arabic has a special attachment to our hearts, specially living in the arab countries as Arabic is the official language here. We also learn it in school too.

Now, you might ask me, why such a celebration of a language like this. Well, this day was made by UNESCO in 2010 to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization.
December 18th was also chosen as it was on this day General assembly approved Arabic as an official language.

U.A.E. has launched a lot of initiatives like "Bel Arabi" (in Arabic) , etc to propagate the use of the Arabic language.
Well, now I would like all of you too to use the language. ( Maybe comment down in Arabic. You can use Google translate too ) )
