The Philippine Youth as Water Managers

by Bam Azores | 18-12-2013 16:17

The 8th CLEAR Youth Network (CYN) Congress was held at the Hidden Resort in Pangil,  Laguna, Philippines on December 14-15, 2013. The CYN is a yearly gathering of groups of young people that live in communities around Laguna Lake in Laguna province and the seven crater lakes of San Pablo City.  This year the CYN had campers from 13  cities/municipalities: Muntinlupa, Taguig, Pateros, Tanay, Angono, Binangonan, Los Banos, Pangil, Lumban, San Pablo, Siniloan, San Pedro, and Santa Rosa.

The CYN is the time for youth groups from around the lakes to report their initiatives about protecting the environment.  It is also a time for the CLEAR to share new knowledge and practices about lake protection and conservation.  CLEAR is made up of three organizations that sponsor the yearly CYN. The three organizations are (1) Laguna Lake Development Authority, (2) Unilever Philippines and (3) the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands.

The theme for this year's CYN is The Youth as Water Managers, which is taken from the World Wetlands Day theme, Wetlands and Water Management.  This CYN talked about the interconnectivity of our water resources, watershed, water supply and the water cycle and how important it is to use our water resources wisely.

This year, our organization sent four students and a teacher.  They gave a report about what the youth of San Pablo City are doing like sachet recovery, treeplanting, lakeshore clean-up and other activities.  Below are some pictures.
