 Waste has become an easy and effortless source of food for many animals. Because of that, some of them are losing their hunting instinct or become accustomed to not having to hunt for food, as food is assured in these places all year round. Approximately 50% of the waste found in landfills is organic waste, which comes from food waste. This waste is a great source of food for other creatures and animals, which are increasingly turning to it. However, rubbish is still rubbish, and among the food that the animals can find, there is also a large amount of plastic, glass, paper and inedible waste that ends up harming the animal. By ingesting sharp objects, the animals' digestive tracts are damaged and painfully infected. A major problem with animals getting food from landfills is the fact that they feed their young and chicks with these wastes instead of proper food. This way they are exposed to the ingestion of dangerous waste since they are young, causing multiple problems for the species, both in terms of survival and genetics, especially in some cases of urbanised animals. Birds of prey, storks, seagulls, bears, wolves and monkeys are just some of the many species that frequent #landfills. Their existence threatens the behaviour and migratory habits, making wild species much more delicate and docile and leading to the loss of certain ecosystems. If we want to reduce damage, we have to start by significantly reducing landfill sites. Urban and industrial waste should be taken directly to a wastemanagement and energy recovery plant, where we can obtain valuable materials and resources.
