Volunteer for Bangladesh, Dhaka District conducted a road cleaning on 8th November 2013 at Dhaka City. The youths set out at early morning to create awareness among the locals and appreciate the unsung heroes, the street sweepers. Dhaka City streets are cleaned manually by the street sweepers early morning and the volunteers wanted to make them feel appreciated and also spread the message that it is not only their duty but everybody else?s.

My Road: My Responsibility with this theme around 40 volunteers headed out to the roads at 6 am. They beat the chilly weather including transport problems and started the event with full enthusiasm. They cleaned the roads around Dhanmondi lake and the surrounding roads. The volunteers were clad with gloves and masks and the dust did not dampen their spirits. Sakib Hasan Chowdhury, a committee member of Volunteer for Bangladesh and the project leader of this event said, ?The sweepers were very happy that we came out to appreciate them for the tough work they do every morning. We also realized that these people make our life easier and we should always be thankful and also do our part. Because it is our road, our responsibility.?

As a citizen it is our duty to keep the city clean and appreciate the peoples behind it. The initiative was appreciated by the local seniors and the volunteers vowed that from now on they will always use the trash cans, keep the roads clean and protect the environment.

The project incharge was Osama Bin Noor, Ambassador to Bangladesh of Tunza ECO Generation.
