Nov. 1, Patna: On our visit to Tarumitra, Me and my team members got to learn a lot about Rice Plantation. Miss Margaret took us to the rice field and showed us the different varieties of rice. There were four types of varieties of rice grown through organic farming. Miss Margaret told us that they have come up with a new variety of rice this time called "Mirchaiya" which is a cross-breed of two local varieties. She explained the method of farming in the rice field and also told us about the usage of fertilizers. Next, she she told us about the eco-friendly toilet that was set up in the Tarumitra campus only a few months back. The human excreta, from the disposition pipe gets converted into manure and goes in the field. We met Father Robert in his office where we had a talk with him about biodiversity. Father Robert talked about the threats to biodiversity and said ways to preserve the flora and fauna. He also told us that there is one more campus of Tarumitra being established in Kerlela, South India. He'll be off to Kerela in a few days for inauguration of the same. We,along with Father Robert, went to the Jal Mandir, which is located in the centre of Tarumitra and sat there for sometime in peace. Before leaving, we asked father if we could hold a conference on Biodiversity in coming days. He was very happy about it and agreed. So, there is a possibility of conference on biodiversity in coming days. |
