BIOPELLET: A RENEWABLE ENERGY BASED WASTE

by | 14-10-2013 18:42

It is still fascinating story as a local community in the remote area of Indonesia has used perpetually solid wood to source of fuel. I will confront dilemma as young forester where I do the reverse, on conserving forest, notably solid wood from overexploitation.

How dangerous? The local community in Indonesia doesn?t realize what will happen in the next if they commit the previous way. As the solution, I proposed and developed a project on helping the above which was by using lignocelluloses wastes for producing bio-fuel called commonly as biopellet.

Biopellet, a renewable potential, is able to substitute fossil fuel and solid woods as major source of fuel. We can utilize the abundant wastes in landfill which is able to rot bring about climate change. For instance, wood waste, white straw, husks, litters are the potential to be utilized as biopellets.

Even, some reports from researchers, the heat value or calorie value of biopellet is like natural bricket from rotting wood. Yet, the local community has altered solid wood with biopellet although it has been used in small scale (4-5 houses).

Why is it easily to engage them on substituting solid wood? Yeah, the production of biopellet is very simple, especially not costly spending much money. But, the government of Indonesia should be responsive and actively help them to expand the project.
