Farm to Factory

by | 04-10-2013 00:56

Early this morning, during our philosophy class, we were to watch a video entitled Food Inc. This was a documentary about the food industry in the United States and it was definitely an eye opener for me. This presented a lot of issues and problems faced by the food sector, not only in the States, but also for other countries.

I was really disappointed at the current situation of the farms turning into factories as it is happening to almost all countries that have a high demand for food. Hasting up food production really has its negative effects. It disrupts the natural balance of our ecosystem. Stressing out the ecosystem will lead to its destruction. We are seeing it now in the form of new viruses coming from these livestock grown by these industries.

This issue is very timely as the essay contest about food here in Tunza has just concluded. I hope you can have time to watch the movie as well. The youtube link is <here> and its an hour and a half documentary. There are a lot of insights you can get from the documentary and I want you to discover them.

The challenge that is presented to us youth is to end this unjust system. Let us find more ways to allow the production of food to be natural as well as affordable and adequate to the target population. We must give attention to this industry and improve it since all of us, including the future generations, depend on this movement that we can make.
