![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dear Friends, Greetings!! I would like to inform you that today is the birthday of two great leaders, MK Gandhi, also known as Gandhiji and Lal Bahadhur Shastri. These two freedom fighters of India helped India to develop and rose it to a level only true courageous men would have done. That is why we celebrate this day as the International Day of Non-Violence to practice Gandhiji's clear message-Don't be violent. Gandhiji wanted to develop a patriotism among the people of the country. But it is slowly and slowly diminishing. Citizens of India look forward for Independence day, republic day and Gandhi Jayanti so that they have a day off. They could have some family time at home. But no one even gathers his thoughts for a minute, the hardships these leaders faced so that we could observe these days today. No Indian wishes to salute the flag when it is hoisted. Majority of Indians do not even think to pay respect to the anthem of India. The story of Mahatma Gandhi has been 66 years old as our books mention but during the course from that era till today, a lot has changed. Today we learn about Gandhi in textbooks but do the students implement it? No, they read, learn for the examination and then forget. Do people today follow Gandhiji?s habits? Do they inculcate them? People have lost respect for Gandhiji. They love him only on the currency notes. Rich businessmen purchase his personal belongings, his round spectacles, watch and the bowl at a very high price at the auctions and frame them at their house but could never inculcate the values taught by Gandhi. Purchasing Gandhiji?s items at a very high price would not make him like Gandhi. It would not show his love towards Gandhiji. Money cannot buy anything. The values of Gandhiji has no amount or price. It can never be on auction. It has to develop from the bottom of your heart. ?First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.? As quoted by the Mahatma ?I cannot teach you violence, as I do not myself believe in it. I can only teach you not to bow your heads before any one even at the cost of your life. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary the evil it does is permanent.? In the modern scenario, the nostalgic values of Gandhi have been completely forgotten. People pick up fights with each other on petty issues. It is then when we realize that Gandhiji was right. How can we forget the three monkeys of Gandhiji? They sent a clear message across the hearts of all Indians-See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil. The onus is now on the Generation Y, if we as teens can learn to convey our message without raising our voice, I?m sure, even hundreds of years later, in all corners of the world, Gandhiji will still be preserved, that leaning figure with his walking stick and simple white dhoti, with a smile etched on his face will loom in our hearts forever |
