One day workshop on Rainwater harvesting and Poster making

Nepali Youths at Guthi (NYG)and Student Council of SchEMS successfully organized one day workshop on Rainwater Harvesting & Poster Making on 2 August with support from School of Environmental Science and Tunza Eco-generation.The main objective of this program was to provide knowledge and information about rainwater harvesting and poster making to all the participants and encourage them to participate in poster making and design campaign on rain water harvesting. All together 37 participants from B.Sc., BBA, M.Sc. including  organizers, guests and college representatives participated in the program.

Guest Anil Sthapit, Director of Guthi gave brief information about the rainwater harvesting as well as Guthi. He told that Guthi will provide students a platform to learn and apply their knowledge practically by giving them the exposure to real field.

Participants were very enthusiastic and learned about rainwater harvesting through short movie Jal Pari. Karuna Thapa member of Nepali Youths gave short introduction of International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA) and Rain Drop Jeneva Award 2013. She also shared poster making guidelines and criteria.

 Meena Lama, member of Nepali Youths gave the presentation on rainwater harvesting. She shared history, techniques, benefits and disadvantages and opportunities of rainwater harvesting in this present situation. 

After her presentation Kiran Maharjan, student of KU shared some techniques of making poster to participants. He gave general and technical idea to make understandable and effective poster. He gave the knowledge of making simple poster to complex poster in each and every aspect form subject selection, color composition, theme, design and presentation.

After these presentation the class was opened for group discussion and formation of group for the poster making and campaign design. During this discussion participants were facilitated by organizing team. Six groups have been formed for the poster making and they committed to submitted their posters within October first week.

At last, Chief guest Ajay Bhakta Mathema - Vice principal SchEMS formally ended the workshop. In his closing speech, he told that ?I have rainwater harvesting system in my house and I was not satisfied with the system but from today?s program I got to learn the new things about it and I convinced that the RWH has not only short term benefits but it has longterm social, economic and environmental benefits.? He appreciate the program and wished for further continuation of this types of program in the future also.
