Waves

           Just by reading the topic, and considering that this is an environmental forum, many will think that I will be talking about the waves made by the ocean. However, I will actually talk about the electric waves that are omitted by devices such as cell phones. It might be a very exotic topic to breach in this type of forum. However, it is important how much the things that we use every second can affect our little insect partners.

           The first incident caused by the EM waves omitted by cell phones was reported years ago. Although very subtle at first, after the widespread of portable phones at a particular village, many of the bees that were abundant in this village started to disappear or bang their heads and suicide. Observing these weird incidents, the case was reported.

           At first, everybody was mystified with this fact. Many thought that it was just a coincidence, the actual reason lying somewhere else. However, starting from the fact that the time of the appearance of the cell phone and the time of this happening matches, researchers started to check any negative effects made by phones. At last, they found out that a plausible clause for this bizarre happening could be the waves omitted by the device.

           The waves disorientated the bees. Exactly how is not known yet, just that the waves interrupts the system of navigation that a bee has making them unable to find their way back home or to the pollen.

           It was not only the bees that were dead because of the calls we made. There are other insects or animals whose navigating system was interrupted by our calls. These examples all show that humans should be careful of the inventions that we make. Always making things that might be helpful, and then fixing them if problems such as the case of the bees appears.
