![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Charity plays a bigger role and it should grow to be able reach the eight anti-poverty targets known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the sustainable development agenda that will build on them after the 2015 deadline. UN humanitarian agencies rely on charitable donations from governments and the public to respond to natural disasters, armed conflicts and other emergencies. In recognition of charity's key role in alleviating humanitarian crises and human suffering, as well as of the efforts of charitable organizations and individuals, the UN General Assembly, in 2012, designated 5 September as the International Day of Charity. The date was established to coincide with the anniversary date of the death of Mother Teresa, the notable charity supporter, Nobel Peace Prize winner and founder of the Missionaries of Charity. All of us should donate time or money, volunteer or act with kindness , especially on this day . Established by the United Nations General Assembly, 2013 is the first International Day of Charity. On this new International Day, lets act act on the charitable impulse that resides in every human being. Today , I donated 2 of my favourite dresses to Sharjah Charity International . Also called up my grandfather in India to donate to "Old People's home" and "Spastic/leprosy Society" in India on my behalf.
